Outfit + Favorites

I haven't washed clothes in weeks, so this is what I am left with.
Interweb Reads: Dazed-Girl Guides

The pieces are sarcastic, witty and just plain funny. I will now sum up my feels in a quote from Gabby Bess's "How to be a female artist" :
"Emphasize the word man in your remembering of it. A literary man. Remember that you are a woman. Maybe you could be as famous as a movie star. Think of the life of female writer – the one’s you've read about in school – think about how history has forgotten them, how they have been overshadowed by their male counterparts. Still, this could be your art."

National Slavery And Human Trafficking Prevention Month and Sina Vann

2009 Frederick Douglass Award Winner - Sina Vann from Free the Slaves on Vimeo.

This past Friday I went to see guest speaker Sina Vann. She is a courageous woman who was kidnapped, drugged, enslaved in a brothel and survived. She was only 12 when this happened and was tortured and raped repeatedly for more than two years. She now works for the Somaly Mam Foundation in an effort to rescue woman and children from sex slavery. I can't begin to fathom how much strength and bravery she has. To expose yourself to danger to help others is truly heroic.

Thoughts, Reflections and Feminism

I hate beaches but I love them all at the same time. Life (for me) is like the ocean, it is fluid. Birth and rebirth. One chapter ends as another begins. There is no pause it keeps going till it's your time. Like every year, this past year has taught me many valuable lessons from how to take care of the inebriated to how to budget. I've made smart choices and extremely, "I wish someone would have slapped me" stupid ones looking back. I saw the work of my favorite visual artist and meet one of my favorite musician, and all the while I was learning.
